Wind turbines in field

pioneer the future of energy

In Australia there will be 400+ community battery deployments over the next decade.

RedGrid and Manningham council are working with the state government, United Energy, Mirvac and Monash University to simulate how a community battery delivers lower energy costs to residents.

To read more about this grant head over to the New Energy Technologies website from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.

What is a community battery?

The new innovation helping the world get to net zero emissions, community batteries are sized battery units in neighbourhoods that allow for shared energy storage.

Community batteries enable communities to store the excess power generated during the day by their rooftop solar cells for use later in the evening, when electricity is more expensive and higher in emissions. This project is a simulation of a community battery, not an integration (yet).

benefits to you

Cleaner, cheaper energy

As the energy for a community battery is sourced from the rooftop solar of households within a neighbourhood, these batteries can offer 100% renewable energy to the community. As the energy is sourced locally, there’s no need to pay large fees to retailers who source energy from power plants 100s of kms away making the energy much cheaper.

$300 off your electricity bill

RedGrid will be rewarding all active participants in the study by paying $150 for their first and last month’s electricity bill.

The project will run from January to August 2022 and will require participants to connect smart plugs to appliances in their homes and have 4 interview calls with the team.

Support clean energy intiatives

RedGrid has partnered with the Internet Of Energy Network (IOEN) to create an open accounting system to balance energy trading.

The project will help support our mission is to build a future where clean energy is shared, affordable, and available to every home on the planet.
